Immunizations

Immunizations prevent deaths every year in all age groups from diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, chickenpox, influenza, hepatitis, and human papilloma virus (HPV).  Immunizations remain one of the most successful, cost-effective public health interventions.   However, approximately 42,000 adults and 300 children in the United States die each year from vaccine-preventable diseases, according to healthypeople.gov.

Vaccine Overview

Influenza (Flu): Recommended annually for everyone aged 6 months and older, ideally ahead of the fall respiratory season. Adults aged 65 and older often prefer higher-dose or adjuvanted formulations.

Pneumonia (Pneumococcal): Recommended for all adults aged 50 and older depending on prior vaccination history.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus): Recommended as a single lifetime dose for all adults aged 75 and older, and for adults aged 50 to 74 who have increased risk factors for severe disease, as well as pregnant individuals during specific gestational weeks. It is not currently an annual vaccine.

Coadministration Guidelines

Safety: Simultaneous administration is standard clinical practice to bring individuals up to date efficiently.
